Hit Detection Server side or Client side?

Sat Jul 13, 2013 11:52 am

i heard that the current version of BF3 use client side hit registration, so when you run behind a wall a player with high ping can still shoot you cause they can see you in their screen.
will Venice fix this? because in the beta bf3 they didnt have client side hit registration.
thank you, :ugeek:

when NoFaTe brings us a LAN mode, hit detection would be irrelephant.
Other than that, i guess he wont change much on NetCode.

NoFaTe does not touch Netcode stuff. Hit detection remains like in the original game.

We'll see.

Eh... one moment

[logic]

In a local network the distance (in ping time and latency) is that small that it doesn't matter how hit detection is calculated/processed.
The pings are all below 20 or even 10 ms so the traffic is actually fast and you won't notice any delays in the hit detection system.
That is also a reason why LAN is superior to online gaming because those problems with high ping, delay and lags are not existing in a LAN game. A good reason to create a LAN mode for BF3. Maybe not for our private use but more for eSports.
Most eSports tournaments are held within a LAN. SC Brood War and CS for example but since developers/publishers like Blizzard and EA/DICE or Activision are abolishing LAN play they're causing trouble with their centralized master server systems which are needed in order to play the tournament.
I would like to point onto the issues that Blizzard had with SC2 on an important tournament when battle.net fucked up and recently Riot Games had problems in a LOL tournament.

[/logic=]
That's my two cents to it.

Actually that doesn't matter because the poor Hitdetection is caused by the server running only at 30 Ticks, no matter if you have a 150 or 10 ms ping, the hit detection sucks.
There used to be a signature here.

Blame EA for this Netcode. (also check IW5 or T6)

A good server admin knows what he can do about it.
