Custom Resolutions

Hello! So here's the thing. Playing at 1024x768 gives me somewhat low fps, my gfx card and processor aren't that good, so i was wondering, is there a way to set it to 800x600? I know about the settings.ini file, i know about changing it in there, but whenever i do it, the game stays at 800x600 for like 5 seconds and automatically goes back to 1024x768..I don't know what to do. Any help would be very appreciated!
