Battlefield 2 compared to Battlefield 3 | LONG POST!

Sat Jun 15, 2013 12:11 am

Battlefield 2 Crossover - Machinima
Don't you miss being able to actually give valuable orders and requests that appeared in the chat box for everyone to see and not just for anyone 2 meters away from you to hear? Don't you miss being the Commander of a team and issuing Squads with orders depending on their roles (attack, defend, destroy, repair)? Don't you miss being able to ... heck, even talk to your teammates throughout the match or even if they didn't answer, you still knew you were able to?

Those were the days of Battlefield 2 where all you used to hear was "Enemy Spotted" and the chat would go filled with it but regardless, you'd have a pretty fun match by the end and it was one of the best times for me when I got together with my 5 buds in a 6-man squad to dominatethe battlefield both in arms and vehicles. It is rather strange to me thinking back to it now, the year was 2011 and it was Summer. I was already excited from what I had seen and heard about the new Battlefield. How it will run on the Frostbite 2 engine with amazing graphics, more realistic and tactical destruction and will be the ultimate successor to Battlefield 2. On that bright E3 I saw the Metro gameplay and at first glance it looked pretty epic. Me and my friends all watched and remembered the good old days so we went and installed BF2 again for some nostalgia. The people had grown far less interested in listening to each another now but regardless, as long as we 6 coordinated and captured flag after flag, eliminating enemy, after enemy and such, we were very hyped about the new Battlefield 3 (remember - the TRUE SUCCESSOR to BF2). One day, I don't remember when exactly but I woke up, got out of bed, proceeded with my morning routine and turned on the PC to see what was on before I was to head outside for a walk with some other friends. I saw a video uploaded from EA called "Battlefield 3 - Caspian Border Gameplay". After watching the trailer (about 5 times in a row), I realized I was running late so the first thing I did was, I went to my local game shop's site (It's sorta like Gamestop in the US, here in Bulgaria it's called Ozone) and pre-ordered the Limited Edition knowing it would also include Back to Karkhand which I was also crazy about these 4 maps. Knowing my PC was pretty weak at the time... like an ATI 4600 HD, Intel Dual core 2,93 and 3 gigs of ram, I had to buy up a video card with all the money I had little before the game released (remember, I am bulgarian so it's not easy for me to have tons of money like in other EU countries and NA). The day the game arrived was the 28th of October which was it's initial EU release date and it stayed like so until the end though some of my other EU friends got the game and teased me we with gameplay videos. Anyhow, I opened the case slowly, saw all the stuff that came with it but most importantly, placed the disc 1 in the tray and started installing. To say the least... in these past 2 years I've been playing, at times starting and at times stopping for months even, I could say I am disappointed. None of the things that were in BF2 were in the game or even if some were, they were dumbed down to an Arcade shooter of today's days like COD. Even Bad Company 2 had more strategy in it's firefights, as it forced players to shoot in short bursts to land their shots rather than go full-auto in medium range and get the kill. Battlefield 3.. was NOT the true successor to one of my all-time favorite games and was just a disappointing money-grab from EA that I didn't even know was coming. To my dismay, BF3 didn't include a Battle Recorder, Mod Support, even a simple spectator mode lacked which most games these days have and not to even begin to mention that ridiculous blue tint. The maps were more urban-based and the only map I could see as a potential BF2 map from the original 9 that came with the game at launch would have to be Kharg Island as it offered a huge terrain with both elements from BF2 and BC2 which made me feel at home. Caspian border was close but it still felt too bunched up together whereas Kharg Island had it all perfect for me. Regardless.. what I am trying to say with this thread is, don't be mislead by false advertisement and don't rush your pre-orders on Battlefield 4. EA have already announced that the next Battlefield will have Premium as well and your Premium from BF3 doesn't carry over so you'll have to buy that sweet super-saving 59,99$ for all new maps again, rather than have someone else develop them for you via mods or heck, even free DLC would be nice from time to time in the form of big patches. Battlefield 4's Multiplayer gameplay may look great and trying to reach for it's roots in the modernized BF2 version of what was once a huge 32v32 WW2 Shooter (I am refering to 1942 if you didnt get it by now) but remember these words - Battlefield 4 will be just the same as Battlefield 3 and these little changes such as "Commander" and "Bigger Squads" are all nothing but shameless rip-offs for me, seeing how they can't even bring the realistic magazine system they had been going with for so long before Bad Company. Do not buy it at launch, at pre-orders or at all. The only one moment you should feel inclined to buy it, is when that Premium edition comes out, drops down to less than $30 and THEN, THEN it will be finally worth it, for I will not do the same mistake of buying a game with all the hype built up in me and paying full-price 59,99$ and then later having to pay another 59,99$ to enjoy the game as it was "meant to be enjoyed most". Good thing there's a Premium 50% off and it's price has dropped too, else I won't buy it. Those $22 I spent a couple of days ago are well worth it but asking me to spend a full-priced game's cost on DLCs is just a no-go for me. They saw this in COD, how Activision pulled off Elite and wanted a similiar trick. Well guess what? You did it, congratulations. Across the world, thousands are playing your PREMIUMFIELD 3 but I'd rather play BF2 at any time because that's where my heart is at. Meeting people, online that is, at BATTLELOG, THE OUT-GAME MENU (woooo, facebook with a Play button) and then, them telling me there's a little bit of Teamwork in BF3 makes me laugh, dear readers. For them to spot an enemy and someone to take him out is teamwork. For me, when I ask for a freaking health or ammo pack and I get it, now that's "teamwork". For people who never played BF2, BF3 looks like a sweet masterpiece which has all their favorite things - easy to learn recoil, unbalanced guns, vehicles that drive/fly like they're made of paper (seriously, these jets and chopper handlings are insane)... I will say this for the last time before concluding my post on this thread.

DO NOT BUY BATTLEFIELD 4! AT LEAST NOT UNTIL IT'S CHEAPER THAN 30$ + PREMIUM IN THAT PRICE!

Because my dear gamers, we are no money trees and EA nor DICE can treat us this way. We, the veterans and even newcomers who read this post should feel proud that we have Battlefield 2 and mods that keep it alive even today such as Project Reality or 21CW. If you feel like someone taking your tank while you were repairing it after a long battle and drives off, leaving completely exposed in the open to enemy fire is fine, then yes, buy Battlefield 4. I assure you, the same kind of people you see in Battlefield 3 today will be there. They think that BF3 is a masterpiece and will buy BF4. There will be those - the vets, like myself, who go in expecting to see the "True successor" at long last and will be disappointed with the result that all the people who play are nothing like what we expect. That the weapon, vehicle and teammates handling is still the same absurd as always and impossible to get used to. So please, dear Battlefield community, heed these words and if you truly did read this, then you are now more educated then you were before or you got a glimpse of nostalgia halfway reading this and are looking for your Battlefield 2 discs case to install it and try it for yourself as I am on this very line of text. I want to thank all who read this and will point out valid arguments whether what I say is true or not bellow in the comments for we must unite. I Love EmulatorNexus' work, they are doing exactly what DICE are supposed to be doing. Giving control to the people. If we can indeed develop mods, have specator mode or to hell with it, even remove the stupid blue tint from the game, then what makes it so hard for DICE to do the same? Nothing really, just the simple lack of fan community appreciation and hunger for more money in their wallets. This has been Mizu writting all this down so these are all my personal thoughts. Now it's time for yours bellow this "wall of text". What do you think would happen with Battlefield if they were to make it as we truly wish it to be, not just another dumbed down experience for all players to pick up, even COD ones, just to grab the playerbase from another game and earn more. I leave you with nothing else but a hope for your recognition. :ugeek:

20 Minutes. But when you've just had your best Battlefield moments in BF3 and then played some BF2 to compare them, I couldn't hold myself and not write this. Did you even read it all?

Kerrigan, do you always have to make me a sad panda  This was for the sake of nostalgia and comparison to show more than that. BF2 is obv better than BF3 but BF4 will be no more also.. they're just overhyping it and.. argh, just read it :(

But I still want to buy BF4 for there's China force and maps in the game, also never found a game can have such detailed maps like that.
BTW I'm Chinese :3

Then prepare to be horribly portrayed with ridiculous accents and 1 starter weapon to represent the nation.. Why can't things be like in BF2, where every side had it's own SET of weapons, not just 1 for every kit

Nobody's asking you to read it, it's a post on a forum and you needn't have posted that link either..
