Open source

Sat May 09, 2015 2:40 pm

Since the development of vu is rather slow -- don't get me wrong, sure only two(?) people are working on it at their free time -- I'd ask if you guys thought about making the project open source (in the future, after the first major release?) or at least partly. I guess that would speed up the process significantly and the community could help to track down bugs or implement new features. I'd be pleased to help out. :)

The Venice and Rome source won't be publicly available.

This idea has been brought up numerous times already.
Long story short, it won't happen because that would in the end lead to split projects etc.

That's why I mentioned maybe to make it only partly open source, exclude the backend etc. Well, I searched the forums and did not find a clear statement on this topic. I see really not what speaks against it. Anyways it's not my beer, but I guess it would not hurt the project.

RimeLib, the library that powers our custom Frostbite Editor "Rime" will be open source.
The core of Venice Unleashed however won't, since it could allow people to exploit frostbite-powered games in an illegal manner.

Well, that's reasonable. Thanks for the clarification.
