Poor framerate

Hello, I am new to the venice unleashed mod. I have been having frame rate issues on VU that I have never had before on the regular game. On the EA version I can run the game on ultra at around 50 fps, on here I struggle to run the game at 30 running on low settings. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and if there is a solution to this problem.
My specs: Intel Core i7-4702HQ 2.2 GHz / 3.2 GHz (Base/Turbo)
8GB DDR3L-1600MHz
512GB Solid-State Drive (SATA M.2)
Windows 8.1, 14.0-inch QHD+ 3200x1800, 10 point Touchscreen
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M (3GB GDDR5)
