I've dealt with people having the LAN's domain DHCP server blocked, windows sockets blocked, and several types of appcrashes. All caused by AVG. In all those cases, the problem only vanished after people uninstalled AVG and rebooted their computers.
I won't say that your problem is certainly caused by AVG, but by what I've seen until today, there's a really high probability that your problem is being caused by AVG.
