Problem solved.
.net framework 3.5 was installed incorrectly.

damn windows :D

Hello,

I got it now to run under ubuntu via wine. But now guess what. under windows it does not work (oh, the irony).

to be more specific. the server starts when the hook file is not in the directory.
but when I do dinput8.dll in the folder and want to start the server that happens here:

The server is Windows 2008 R2 Web x64.
Ubuntu was 12.04 x64. And there it works. (though not stable the whole time)

someone have an idea where the problem could be?
all necessary runtimes are installed.

I'm gonna make this very short: If you're gonna host via wine you're gonna have a bad time. There are countless problems even when you do manage to set it up. The ping is not stable, its around 500 compared to 100, hence it's unplayable. If anyone managed to set it up let me know I'm wrong. For windows you need .net and visual c++ redist

I guess stability is argueable, but what does ping have to do with it?

Players freezing randomly for no obvious reason, rubber banding equivalent to playing bf4 on a dial up connection et cetera
But don't take this for granted I'm a linux noob, maybe i haven't set it up correctly, although I did follow the manual

I have, admittedly, never set up a BC2 server on linux myself, though I think many big server providers as well as private hosters are running linux without problems.

Yes but they run the linux version, not wine as far as I'm aware of it

BC2, BF3 and BF4 servers are exclusively hosted on Windows (at RSPs).

However the problems you described with hosting bc2 servers on linux aren't true. They can run pretty good without much problems. It's all a matter of the setup.

my servers under ubuntu 12.04 running 'okay'.
they performing very nice on that small machine but crash every 3-4 rounds, don't know why.

for a few minutes I now have 11 BC2 Conquest Sever running on Win 2008 R2. Accessible as "German Playground"

would be nice if you could test if they are stable and performant.
I think they will die very fast, but i'm working on it ;)

edit
because ping:
my server autokick ping > 250.
which is necessary otherwise no liquid play possible.
sooner or later I put the limit down to 150-200 so it
should be running like a 'real' server.

11 might be overkill...

There even aren't enough players on Nexus with a ping < 250 to your server to fill all of them :P

damn, you could be right. :D

but they are only there for testing. think in the end it will be 3-4 server.
I wanted to cover all the maps at the beginning to see which are really being played the most and then choose the best.

yea, there are other maps than Heavy Metal and Arica Harbor. believe it or not :)

now I let them run until tomorrow and then I'll check further.

if someone plays on one of them and noticed problems he can feel free to contact me. I appreciate any feedback.

Update
I have shut down the servers. will bring them back online in..uhm, when i'm awake.
they ran clean over the few hours. but unfortunately, saw a total of only 5 players.
will merge them down to ~6 servers. with all rush and conquest maps (for now).

as my problem is solved, thread can closed.

if anybody has questions concerning setting up servers on windows/linux, please ask.
i will try to help. in german and english.
