Build my Gamer PC

Fri Jan 18, 2013 6:21 pm

I get bored so I start to think how about build a gamer PC that's not overprice and totally believable (1000$ to 1300$)
and I assemble my imaginary gaming PC :lol: (cause I'm not sure that I will build it or not) and this what come in my mind :

Image

PowerColor AX7850 2GBD5-DH Radeon HD 7850 2GB......................................$184
Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) ...................$300
ASRock 970 EXTREME3.....................................................................................$85
2 x Kingston 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333.........................................$96
Samsung SH-S223F 22X DVDR.........................................................................$25
Western Digital Red WD30EFRX 3TB IntelliPower ...........................................$169
NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT...........................................................................$119
RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V...................................................$60

Total cost.........................................................................................................$1039

I think it's totally affordable if you really want to play smooth games

Sorry, but that's one of the worst configurations I've ever seen :lol:

It won't even boot up(wrong mainboard)...

You should to fix:

  • Mainboard Chipset/Socket: You chose a AMD Mainboard ._.
  • Processor: i7 isn't a good choice for gaming, go for the 3570k or 3470
  • Hard Drive: WD Red are server hard-drives, better take Blue(normal) or Black(fast). Although i would recommend a 7200.14
  • PSU(Power Supply Unit): Crap and overpowered, get a be quiet! E9 480W
  • RAM: You won't eber need 16GB, 8GB are enough and cheaper(Maybe buy 1600Mhz)
  • GPU: Better choose the Sapphire 2GB OC version of the HD 7850(or go for a 7870)

Dude the HD 7950 price is $370 and the Radeon HD 7850 2GB price is $184 do the math :geek:
And i5-3570K not better then i7-3820

i5-3570K : (6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) 4 cores ==> 4 Threads
i7-3820 : (10M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) 4 cores ==> 8 threads

@Blackend

As I said, the PC wouldn't even start ._.

@xheon

Yeah, they have about the same performance, but who needs 8 cores? Anyways, the FX is cheap, so if your budget isn't that big, you can buy it.

3570k is very good, but if you don't want to OC it, get a 3470.

@AXESWY

Right, i7 isn't better, but why did you choose it in your configuration then if you know that? ._.

7850 OC is strong enough to run Venice @1080p smoothly with maximum settings.

Oh, misread that...

Yeah, if you do rendering, the i7 is by far better, but in games, it doesn't get more performance.

if you speak about only gaming i5 or i7 will not make much differences and we need to think ahead for 1 or 2 years
i5 will not be so good

In 2 years, no CPU will be really good anymore. There won't be much difference between i5 and i7 as the i7's only advantage is HT, which is pretty much useless for games.

Better take a CPU with unlocked multi(3570k), much more useful then HT.
