I guess it's a reply to origins 'on the house' free games. In the end, we gamers will profit 8-)
Competition is always good for the end consumers.

It's not really a rip-off for the ones who did buy it because... we had a chance to play it for 3 whole years (or at least the ones that did play it, I could never get around it). And it's not a response to Origin's "On the house" bs, it's the developers' choice to do this. VALVe did it first with L4D2 and I believe another game long ago but I didn't have Steam back then. Not to mention that Origin will never be on Steam's level, Community and stability-wise.

lol ...but you will get a free game every couple of months :D
I hope they include a battlefiled game in "on the house"
And I know that steam is better but as i previously stated, Competition is better and we the gamers will surely benefit from that.

Again, this isn't Steam's doing, it's the Developers'. I've been following MuseGames for a while and they themselves shared the news that Steam gives more options to the devs now. Such as scheduling a discount, free weekend and such. This must be a part of it. Steam can't just give out a game if the developers are against it. That will sort of violate their terms because they get nothing in return. Also, these things have been decided for at least 2-3 months in advance. In other words, this could've been decided shortly after the L4D2 deal. They are just running on schedule, you can't say "my game will be 75% off tomorrow", you have to have an appointed date which is free. That's why I am saying Steam > Origin in every way. Even the indie and big team devs get their own set of features now and then.
