The game creates a license file with a related machine hash. You have to own your own game period.

Unless we have any further information about the license there is no way to play Venice for free when you didn't own the game before.

:x   ;)

The project is free. Of course. Charging any money for it would be illegal...

But:

The client of Venice requires a fully, legit licensed BF3 installment on your PC.
That means that you must have activated a BF3 key in Origin anytime.
Origin creates a license file for the game which includes your game key and your related machine hash.
The hash stores information about your system. The license file is needed!

Without the matching license file the client won't startup due to authentication failure.
Ergo: Copying a legit version from a friends computer to your system won't be successful, because the game would try to look up the license file. If it finds a license file with a different machine hash or doesn't find a license it all the client won't start.

Any further information about this issue will be dispatched in time.

Unless Venice isnt released yet there is no matter to worry about yet.

I hope this is clear enough now.

Will it be able to run without Origin?
