72h Open Bughunting Season FAQ

Fri May 08, 2015 3:15 pm

When?
The Open Bughunting Season will start at Saturday, May 9th, 12:00 UTC and end at Tuesday, May 12th, 12:00 UTC (lasting exactly 72 hours).
Here's a quick overview to help you find out when the Beta will start in your timezone:

If your timezone is not included, use this site in order to convert the date to your timezone.
Additionally, this countdown will show you how many hours are left until the Open Bughunting Season weekend starts.

What?
During the 72-hour period, everybody who has a valid Emulator Nexus account will be able to play Venice Unleashed, wether you have a Closed Beta key or not.
As the title suggests, the main focus is on discovering any so far unknown bugs and issues, stress-testing our backend services, and testing our new high frequency networking code.

This means that you can play the game the way you normally would, while trying to figure out if anything isn't working the way it should.
Keep in mind to submit any bugs you may find to the Venice Unleashed Bugtracker!

How?
To join the Open Bughunting Season you only need a couple of things.

First of all, you need an Emulator Nexus account.
If you don't already have one, you can register here.

Second of all, you need a fully updated and licensed version of Battlefield 3.
Simply launch Origin, let your game update, and you're done.

Finally, you need our custom client.
You can download and install our client from the downloads page.

After you've successfully downloaded and installed our client, simply launch VU using the created shortcut and let the client update.
Once the game is launched, simply login with your Emulator Nexus account, create a Soldier, and you're all set to play!

Reporting Bugs
Make sure to check if an issue has already been posted before opening up a new one.
If not, try to include as many relevant details as possible. This includes the VU build you're using, your operating system and hardware configuration, instructions on how to reproduce the issue, etc.

This is a beta build of our client, so crashes are to be expected.
If your client crashes, try to replicate the conditions under which your client crashed, and then let us know on the bugtracker.

The more (actual) bugs are reported, the sooner VU can be released!

Servers and Hosting
For the duration of this test, we will be hosting 6 dedicated game servers, both in Europe and the US.
Every server will have a location tag attached to it, so you will be able to distinguish which server you're joining.

All of our servers will be running in High Frequency mode, and some servers might be running mods.

Finally, a few of you have been offering to host VU servers for the duration of this test.
While we appreciate your helpfulness, we have to refuse this offer in order to be able to accurately monitor all servers during the Open Bughunting Season.
This means that, for now, all server hosting will be done by us.

Questions and Feedback
If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us, either via our community forums, or in our IRC channels (connection information here).
We're always eager to listen to you, so feel free to leave your feedback and suggestions on our community forums.
