Banning at Rome / EA GUID

Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:38 am

We got many topics regarding banning certain unfair players from various servers. But does banning really work on Rome or is it useless?

Our Rome servers stream to metabans. By banning a hacker he will be automatically banned from all our other servers. Working for this playername. If he starts creating new names, the procedure starts again.

I am thinking of switching to ban by EA GUID at once...

To all fellow server admins: How do you ban? What are your experiences?

BTW: We are using Procon right now.

EA GUID bans work on Nexus and are better than Name bans because they ban the account, not just the persona. However the player can still create a new account.
There used to be a signature here.

I always thought the EA GUID would be somehow unique (like on EA servers). In that case banning by EA GUID in combination with streaming to metabans would be really effective.

The EA GUID changes with every new account at rome (=this forum), too?

They are unique for every user yes, but if you create a new account then you get a new 'EA GUID' aswell

Why not use IP too? or does BFBC2 not disclose the IP to b3?

Don't think so (afaik its something with Punkbuster). Also they can just restart the router to get a new IP

please note: i doubt the averidge cheater would have the brain cells to go and change the IP if they did not see something saying "IP ban" Of course there are those die-hard cheaters who insist on cheating on a specific server but chances are the rest would just avoid that server after one or two "kicked for: Banned" messages.
