Need Help: Hosting a server on Linux and compensate for lag

Tue Feb 12, 2013 1:17 pm

Hello,

I am planning to host a BFBC2 server on a Linux VPS, but I the ping to my country is around 300ms.
Is there any setting that I can set server-side that might compensate for this 300ms lag?

Hope thaht can be done :)

I don't really get it... The Ping from where to where is 300ms?

If you mean the ping to nexus servers I think it wouldnt really matter.. Client's ping playing on your server is deciding.

I mean the ping from my hosted server to me (and my other players) is 300ms.

I would like to know if there are variables I can set server-side that can make this 300ms lag less apparent to the game client.

EDIT: All the players from my country will have the same exact 300ms lag, what I am looking for is a server variable that copes for this 300ms lag more or less.

I am hosting my server on Linux and I haven't had any problems with the latency. Remember, that your ping is not correctly displayed in-game.

@cactuspie, I am not saying that linux has latency problems.
The specific server is a VPS on which I am planning to host BFBC2, has a 300ms ping from where I am.
Thats a fact and cannot be changed. Technically there is nothing wrong or fixable about that ping (latency)

What I am asking for is if there are commands/variables that can be modified on the BFBC2 server (MY VPS Server) that I can tweak/play with to accommodate/circumvent for that 300ms ping.

That way players from my country will not feel that lag that much. Hoping for a positive response :)

There are no server commands that I know of (doesn't mean thare are none), but I've heard about some client side stuff. You can read up here:

Thanks for the link CactusPie, I actually read this once some time back, a guy even did a youtube vid showing his findings on the client-side settings

Thats what got me the idea of a setting server-side.
Does anyone else know if such settings are do-abale server-side?
