Here's my two cents, I'll try to mention every map discussed.
Inb4 sorry the for long(est?) post and quote trains. (Don't you dare to quote this whole post)
VinDerpel wrote:Atacama Desert is easy to play as defenders. Hop in the VADS and you can basically stop the enemy team from advancing if your teammates keep snipers at bay.
When attacking on this map play as an engineer, pick carl gustav and explosive damage perk. Stand right of the mi24 hind looking at the attackers base, zoom in with the carl gustav, align the most top cross below the crosshair with the centre of the green barracks on which the VADS is (if you were to look at the front of the barrack as an rectangle, you would shoot where it's diagonals would cross, but lets not get too technical here), now shoot. You hit every time. Fire and forget. No antiair for the next 60 seconds. You can also learn spots on how to destroy the antiair on the second base with rpg from the chopper spawn. Same goes for the third and the fourth. Only the last aa turret (zu23) spawns every 40 seconds I think. Having a good gunner and you can easily turn the game into a rape fest. When playing against an below average team getting 100+/0 kd in a chopper isn't hard
VinDerpel wrote:No matter how good a player is, a half competent attacking team on Valparaiso will be near impossible to beat for the first two bases. The only way to lose on Valparaiso as attackers is to have people who fail completely at using the chopper and bradley. The attackers get a Bradley + blackhawk + UAV and the high ground with trees.
Having a good team and you can easily steamroll through all bases, especially with the early game blackhawk drop. Having a good team when defending you can basically push them back to the spawn and having a good engi you can shoot the blackhawk before it goes anywhere. It can go any way but it slightly favours defenders, thus attackers get more tickets for the first base. I have also seen someone deal with this by giving attackers something like 300 tickets.
mizudg wrote:But heavy metal takes NO Skill.. maybe taking out a chopper does, but in a vast and open map, where does the soldiers on the ground skill come in handy?
Snipers and bushes. You either love it or hate it.
blueman24 wrote:Arica Harbour. Period.
Great for Rush, Conquest, Squad deathmatch.
And the night mod for Africa harbour is outstanding.
Arica, yeah the good old arica. Rush gets extremely boring as the first base always goes the same. You spawn vehicle optic, align your shot with the clouds and shoot, 3-5 minutes later you destroy both mcoms and get around 1500 points. The second base, same goes for B, A is pretty hard to get to since you need to actually destroy the entrance to it before you can do anything. The railroad mcoms are also hard but if you manage to get through them it's pretty straight forward to victory.
It's one of the best maps for conquest, but with normal ticket settings. It's no fun to play on 1000 ticket servers where basically the whole level gets leveled (levolution right
) and the game basically stalls until the end of the round. blueman24, If you really really like nightmod I could give you a file where you would play it at night and everyone else would play on a day.
VinDerpel wrote:And as others have mentioned, cold war rush and laguna presa rush are pretty bad too. Cold war is absolute trash IMO due to the fact that its impossible to take the first two mcoms as attackers. Heck, most rush maps are garbage.
So the closer mcom is pretty easy to take as their team spawns pretty far back, the second mcom usually gets mortared to destruction. Problem is when half of your team is a sniper and tries to mortar the second mcom and you have nobody attacking the first one. What you need to do is spawn as recon with a shutgun and c4 with expl damage and ammo, rush over the hill, you can easily run out of bounds and jump back down there, make sure you use motion balls to check if anyone's there before proceeding, if there is kill him only if he saw you, try to shoot as least as you don't want to alert the enemy of your presence, if there's no one rush straight to the B mcom. Do NOT plant the mcom, do not go upstairs. Throw a motion ball. If you see someone's on the minimap in the B house upstairs that's great. Now take your c4 and plant: one under the stairs, one in the "closet" in the corner of the house, one in the corner of the house that is just to the closet, and one in the other corner of the house away from both doors. Now that you planted four of them get out start running towards A and detonate your c4. The house is going down (if it doesn't you don't have expl dmg), you got the mcom, congrats and with some luck you will also get a multikill. Now they have a good portion of their team dead and you plant A and your team is there to support you and you get also the first mcom (this is the best case scenario if you manage to also plant A, usually fails but works from time to time, and when it does, you wont regret it)

Harvest Day CQ
White Pass CQ
What do you have against harvest cq? It's like heavy metal without choppers, the map plays out great. There are even 24/7 harvest day servers, and they're popular. People love it, I see no reason to dislike it, especially from a person that likes open warfare combat
White pass cq is a decent infantry map, nothing special about it. It's fun to play from time to time.
weavii wrote:Best:
Heavy Metal CQ
Valparaiso Rush

Harvest Day CQ
Oasis Rush
You have the imbalanced oasis rush in the mapcycle -.- The defenders get 10 tanks and full air support and spawn on the mcoms and the attackers spawn on the other side of the earth trying to reach it. It's very hard to take the first mcom, especially if attackers get pushed back to the spawn. Arguably it's one of the maps with the poorest balnce. Same goes for harvest as stated on the post above.
mizudg wrote:Worst map in reality is Heavy Metal CQ since it becomes boring and stale after a while, especially when people put the tickets to 1000 or something like that. As for the Rush maps, I can add another worthy mention - Oasis. Possibly my favorite map since they released it and sadly not enough servers run it on either CQ or Rush
I couldn't agree more on the first part. Oasis conquest is fine, but rush? (read the post above)
Okay now for the main post, not sure if it was april fools but this turned into a serious discussion
VinDerpel wrote:Whats the best and worst map in your opinion?
Best - Harvest Day Rush and Arica Harbor - Both offer a nice mix of infantry and vehicle combat, and offer some cqb as well as long range combat. They also allow for some clever tank usage (MCOM bombardment)
"Best - Harvest Day Rush" Have you lost your mind? That is the map where you will not take the first set of mcoms. You will not. There is no way. You spawn in the nearby galaxy Andromeda and attack a place that is 2,5 million light years away. By the time you reach it the defenders are 2,5 million years in the future. They for some reason allow you to attack. They can spawn on the mcom (because they're from the future), they can defuse instantly and can kill anyone by looking at them. And dice made it seem balanced by making defenders use the same amount of tanks that the attackers do, because balance! It's not like they also have tow launchers and fortifications (which they obviously do). Not to mention the Sahara that you have to cross to get to the base. Legend says there is enough scrap metal from the tanks lost there to make 7 Eiffel towers. Not one man managed to cross it. Ever. Seriously, I'm playing with a team where we steamroll the other team for 5 games straight through 5 maps and then harvest day rush comes and we can't even get the first mcom, when defending we invade Andromeda, proceed to capture the whole galaxy with no problem at all by traveling though wormholes and claim claim galactic dominance. The enemy team was never seen again.
