Competitive game, some questions

Sat May 18, 2013 6:15 pm

Hello guys,
I heard about Venice from my teammate and I think this could be the only way we could finally play BF3 competitive. Can't wait to try it out!

I have some questions though:
1. you guys think €SL or any other competitive portal will support Venice, allowing people to play on this platform in a ranked/official way?

2. How will the hosting work? We'll be able to download the server files and configure it on a dedicated server like q3 was? (I compare to q3 as this is the only other game I played competitive, before bf3, but I think any other non-€A-fps work in this way...) Which OS we'll need?

3. You guys think there will be any host (like fragnet or gport) that will support this project in order to let the teams rent their own server without have to buy a dedicated one?

4. There will be a "standard" preconfig mod (something like QMAX) or any "tool" to check the server config, so when you play on a server you know all the settings and check if it's a "standard" server or not?

5. Is there any way to contribute to the project? Is there anything we can do?

Sorry for the wot and for the bad english.

Keep going and bb!

No I don't think the ESL will allow Venice, but the servers are all ranked (maybe some nice teams will make a community cup)

Yes, there will be serverfiles available then. Also I think you can host your own server on Windows and Linux.

I don't think so. Either you will rent a VPS/dedibox or host on your own PC.

Well there will be a serverlist where you can see the current map, players and more. Or did I misunderstand you?

I guess you can donate to NoFate...

Mmm not exactly. Actually I don't know how much customizable will be the Venice server or if there will be any "custom" mods loadable. In this case, in the server browser, will there be a way to check if the server is running a "standard" mod (like the normal server on bf3) or any other feature like no-blue, spectator mode, nude-skin, big-head (stupid examples)?

For examples, we play for Mr.Potato's Cup, we host the match on our server with a standard community ruleset. Our opponents will be able to check the server config in order to verify that the server config matches the community ruleset?

Maybe this is a stupid questions :D

Anyways thanks for the fast and very good reply!

EDIT: I forgot to ask you something! :D
What about VPS? Are they cheaper then dedicated servers? What about the perfomance? Are they more valuable then standard game-hosts? This is a very noob question, I know, but I ask anyways! :P

bb!

@cyK
I don't know exactly how, but you'll be surely able to view the server configuration somehow...
Also, you can get a VPS in different "versions"... A strong VPS can handle a server (CactusPie is hosting his server on a VPS afaik).
